ज्ञानविज्ञानयोगKnowledge and realisation

The Divine as the thread on which all this is strung; the four kinds of people who turn to God.

How can the Divine be known within ordinary life?

Through the ordinary itself, taken as a door rather than mistaken for the room. Krishna names the taste in water, the light in sun and moon, the strength in the strong (7.8–11) — not a list to memorise but a way of attending. What hides the source is the three guṇas, and what crosses them is refuge (7.14). Four kinds of people come to him, and he does not despise the one who comes in distress. Devotion may begin there and deepen.

Read it with this in mindOrdinary experience can become remembrance without confusing creation with its source. Need-based prayer is not despised; devotion may begin in distress and deepen into knowledge and love.

Where we are in the dialogue

Knowing Krishna in All Things

Krishna distinguishes lower and higher prakṛti, then names water’s taste, the sun’s light and human strength as doors to remembrance. The three guṇas conceal their source; refuge crosses māyā. Four kinds of devotees approach, and the rare wise person sees Vāsudeva as all.

Words to carry through
two prakṛtis; immanence; guṇas; māyā; four devotees; Vāsudeva

Questions readers ask

About chapter 7.

What is māyā?

The guṇa-made power through which reality is misread and the source remains unrecognised.

Are distressed devotees inferior?

They are welcomed; the chapter describes different beginnings, not permission for contempt.

What does “Vāsudeva is all” mean?

All existence depends on and is pervaded by the Divine; traditions explain that relation differently.
