Chapter 6 · The yoga of meditation

Bhagavad Gita 6.16–17

Moderation in food, rest and work.

Shri Bhagavan

6.16

nātyaśnatastu yogo’sti na caikāntamanaśnataḥ / na cātisvapnaśīlasya jāgrato naiva cārjuna

6.17

yuktāhāravihārasya yuktaceṣṭasya karmasu / yuktasvapnāvabodhasya yogo bhavati duḥkhahā

Yoga is not for the man who eats too much, Arjuna, nor for the man who does not eat at all; not for one who sleeps too much, nor for one who stays awake. For the man who is measured in eating and in rest, measured in the effort he puts into work, measured in sleep and waking, yoga becomes the end of sorrow.

What it means

Moderation in food, rest and work.

Yoga is not for one who eats too much or too little, sleeps too much or too little. For one who is moderate in food and recreation, in effort, in sleep and waking, yoga destroys all sorrow.
